@HowardFinkel: I’ve dubbed Dean Ambrose “Mr. Perpetual Motion.” He never stops in the ring. His “loose cannon” approach is unparalleled, and I feel strongly that despite some potential “Authority adversity,” he will conquer Seth Rollins and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. WINNER: Dean Ambrose
@JoeyStyles: Dean Ambrose pinned his former Shield partner Seth Rollins in a tag team match on Raw. However, that does not make it a foregone conclusion that the same will happen in singles competition. The Authority will always do what they (not us) feel is best for business. If Stephanie McMahon and Triple H feel Rollins as WWE World Heavyweight Champion is best, then Rollins will stay champion. I expect interference from Kane and J&J Security to allow Rollins to steal a win from Ambrose. WINNER: Seth Rollins
Scott Taylor: There’s no way The Authority will let Dean Ambrose become the new “Face of WWE.” Seth Rollins will certainly have a backup plan ready to go to hold onto the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. WINNER: Seth Rollins
Mike Burdick: Ladies and gentlemen, Dean Ambrose is about to capture his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The Lunatic Fringe will utilize the help of Roman Reigns to overcome any Authority interference, and the “Age of Ambrose” will begin. WINNER: Dean Ambrose
Anthony Benigno: Dean Ambrose has “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s mean streak and Mick Foley’s man-of-the-people grittiness. But this situation is a lot more reminiscent of Foley’s title matches, which were earned by force of will, yet typically ended with the entire machine uniting to stomp out The Hardcore Legend. WINNER: Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins: 3, Dean Ambrose: 2
Seth Rollins’ first defense of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will come at Extreme Rules against the very Superstar who pinned the self-proclaimed “Future of WWE” at WrestleMania, Randy Orton.
Orton, a 12-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, was named Rollins’ challenger on the April 6 Raw, after defeating Roman Reigns and Ryback in a No. 1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match. Now, he looks ahead to his opportunity against the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Extreme Rules.
The WWE Universe is still raving about Orton and Rollins’ last encounter at WrestleMania, where The Viper ignited The Show of Shows by inconceivably countering Rollins’ Curb Stomp into a high-elevation, highlight-reel-worthy RKO. Whereas Rollins and Orton’s deeply personal and longstanding grudge was the foundation for that bout, their rematch at Extreme Rules will be not only emotionally charged, but also for the grandest prize in sports-entertainment.
Since then, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion has appeared less-than-eager to again cross paths with The Viper, but he will have no choice on Sunday, April 26, when Extreme Rules airs live on WWE Network.
Can The Authority’s boundlessly athletic poster boy — a CrossFit-conditioned machine who is arguably the most dynamic in-ring competitor to wear the WWE World Heavyweight Title — silence the doubters and cement his first championship reign with a pivotal victory over the more seasoned Orton, a third-generation Superstar who was pegged as a Legend-in-the-making his rookie year? Or will The Viper, who craves the opportunity to tap into his extreme and most sinister instincts, remind Rollins why he is the master of the RKO “outta nowhere,” and return to championship glory at Rollins’ expense?
Watch this gigantic WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match live when Extreme Rules takes over WWE Network Sunday, April 26, starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
With both men fueled by bitterness and a mutual disdain for one another, Randy Orton and Seth Rollins prepare to do battle on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
The animosity dates back to November, when Orton was not only kicked out of The Authority, but also ambushed by Rollins, who drove The Viper’s head onto the steel steps with a vicious Curb Stomp. That attack cost Orton four months of his career, while Rollins continued to flourish, with Mr. Money in the Bank even challenging for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Royal Rumble. Orton sat at home biding his time, planning his retribution against those who had done him wrong.
At WWE Fastlane, Rollins’ worst fear came to fruition, as Orton returned to WWE, landing RKO after RKO on members of The Authority as The Architect fled the building. In the ensuing weeks, however, Orton — despite the skepticism of some Authority members — won the trust of Rollins, even aiding Mr. Money in the Bank in a victory over Roman Reigns. For a while, it seemed as if all was forgiven, and Orton was ready to pick up where he left off as a member of The Authority. Yet as Rollins would find out, you can never trust a snake.
On the March 9 edition of Raw, Orton’s true motives became known as he unleashed a brutal assault on Rollins, even driving him through the announce table with a thunderous RKO. The next week on Raw, Orton and Rollins’ WrestleMania showdown became official, though not until after Rollins attempted to play his own mind games against WWE’s Apex Predator.
Orton has racked up a string of legendary accomplishments since making his WWE debut nearly 13 years ago. At WrestleMania, Orton looks to decimate Rollins, showing no mercy for his past sins. Rollins has been called the “Future of WWE” since he joined The Authority last summer, and winning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match did nothing but fuel the belief that he is destined for greatness. Now, Rollins looks to finish what he started last fall, taking out the 12-time World Champion once and for all.
Will Orton’s thirst for payback be satisfied at WrestleMania? Will Rollins be able to de-venomize The Viper? And will the course of history change as the “Future of WWE” is determined?

WWE World Heavyweight Championship (Triple Threat) Match: Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins
Continuing one of the most physically intense rivalries in WWE history, John Cena will attempt to capture his 16th World Title when he challenges WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar for sports-entertainment’s top crown at Royal Rumble 2015. However, Cena won’t be the only challenger, as the returning Authority has added Seth Rollins to the mix of what is now a Triple Threat Match for WWE’s top prize.
The championship bout was supposed to mark the final chapter in the epic rivalry between the two dominant Superstars. It would have been their third one-on-one battle since SummerSlam, where the nearly 300-pound Anomaly decimated Cena in a one-sided beatdown. The Cenation leader rebounded in a rematch the following month at Night of Champions and appeared to be on the brink of victory when Rollins interfered, leading to Lesnar’s disqualification and title retention. Rollins then attempted to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, only for Cena to foil his plans.
Cena went on to defeat Randy Orton inside Hell in a Cell in October, earning the No. 1 contendership, before leading a team of Superstars to remove The Authority from power at Survivor Series. The 15-time World Champion defended his positioning as top contender at WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs … and Stairs in a Tables Match victory over Rollins.
All the while, Mr. Money in the Bank had been scheming to get Cena, the only person with the authority to do so, to put Triple H & Stephanie McMahon back in power. His devious machinations finally paid off on the last Raw of 2014, when he had his boot across the neck of WWE Hall of Famer Edge, threatening to cripple the retired Rated-R Superstar. The disgusting act left Cena with no choice but to reinstate The Authority.
As a reward for his loyalty and diligence in ushering their return, The Authority inserted Rollins into the championship match. Triple H described it as a “bonus” for The Standard Bearer.
In the midst of all this, Lesnar was waiting in the wings. The champion had been conspicuous by his absence since Night of Champions, returning on the Dec. 15, 2014, edition of Raw with Paul Heyman to aid Rollins in defeating Cena in a Steel Cage Match. The fearsome Lesnar should be well-rested and ready to show the world why he holds the WWE World Heavyweight Title.
Cena had seemingly navigated the tumultuous waters of holding onto his claim of being top contender, only for The Authority to throw a wrench in his plans for redemption. Will The Conqueror and Rollins plot to ensure Cena does not leave with his 16th World Title? Or will Lesnar’s thirst for dominance and Rollins’ desire to prove he’s the future of WWE lead to an all-out war?
Find out who will leave the City of Brotherly Love with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship when Royal Rumble 2015 airs live on WWE Network on Sunday, Jan. 25.
Team Cena vs. Team Authority (Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match)
After John Cena rejected The Authority’s advances to become their chosen one, Triple H & Stephanie McMahon responded with a challenge, daring the Cenation leader to assemble a team to face their hand-chosen squad in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match on Nov. 23.
What The Authority wasn’t bargaining for, however, was that WWE CEO Mr. McMahon would later add an all-important wrinkle to ceremonies: If Team Authority loses, Triple H & Stephanie will be ousted from power!
The teams began to take shape on the Nov. 3 Raw as Team Authority officially named Seth Rollins and Kane to its ranks, as well as offered spots to Rusev and Mark Henry. Neither The Super Athlete nor The World’s Strongest Man has publicly accepted the invitation yet.
In addition to the 15-time World Champion himself, Team Cena has officially one member, reigning Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler. Though Triple H & Stephanie have insisted Superstars will be free to join Team Cena, the powerful couple’s tactics tell a different story: After Ziggler was seen talking to Cena backstage on the Oct. 27 Raw, The Showoff became targeted by Authority henchman Kane.
Who else will Cena and The Authority choose to join them in the ultimate form of team combat, the Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match? Who will be left standing tall at WWE’s fall-time tradition, and will The Authority lose its grip on WWE when the dust settles?
Find out at WWE Survivor Series, live on WWE Network and pay-per-view, Sunday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT! And don’t forget, WWE Network — including Survivor Series — is FREE to all new subscribers for the month of November.
