Backstage: Mick Foley stops in Seth Rollins’ locker room and he tells Seth that he has a match against Sami Zayn. He says that Stephanie wants to build on the friend versus friend. Mick says if Sami wins against Seth, he gets Seth’s spot in the Royal Rumble. Mick says he was fighting with Stephanie about it. Seth says he has to beat Sami Zayn tonight, win the Royal Rumble on Sunday, and then go to the main event of Wrestlemania and throw it all in her and her coward husband’s face.
Seth Rollins versus Sami Zayn in a Seth Rollins’ Spot in the Royal Rumble is on the Line Match
They lock up and Zayn with a waist lock. Rollins with a wrist lock. Zayn goes for a reversal but Rollins sends Zayn to the mat. Rollins with a rollup for a near fall. Rollins with a side head lock. Rollins with a shoulder tackle and a rollup for a near fall. Zayn with a waist lock and wrist lock. Rollins with a reversal and he tries for a La Magistral but Zayn blocks it and gets a near fall of his own. Zayn with a wrist lock and Rollins with a forearm to the head. Rollins with another forearm and Zayn with a double leg take down and punches. Rollins with punches of his own. Rollins goes to the floor and Zayn sets for a dive but Rollins gets back into the ring and connects with a clothesline. Rollins with a suicide dive and Zayn is sent into the ringside barrier as we go to commercial. We are back and Rollins with a top wrist lock. Zayn with punches and an Irish whip. Rollins is sent to the apron and connects with an enzuigiri. Zayn avoids the springboard knee to the temple and Zayn with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Rollins runs into an elbow from Zayn and Zayn with a boot and a cross body but Rollins rolls through and gets a near fall. Zayn with a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Zayn goes up top and Rollins leaps to the turnbuckles and goes for a superplex but Zayn pushes Rollins off. Rollins goes to the turnbuckles and hits a Blockbuster for a near fall.
According to WrestlingDVDNetwork, WWE is planning to release a brand new Seth Rollins biography WWE DVD later this year! The current working title is “Seth Rollins – Building The Architect” and as of right now we can expect to see a documentary and a collection of the best of Seth’s career so far. Right now, it’s looking like the DVD will be released in May for the UK but no word on when it will be released in the US just yet.
In ring: Kevin says the Wrestlemania math does not add up, but it does not matter. Kevin says he is the longest reigning Universal Champion in history. After the Royal Rumble, he will still be the Universal Champion. Just like after Wrestlemania, he will be the Universal Champion, no matter who he faces. Seth Rollins’ music plays and he comes out and he said he heard people talking about the main event of Wrestlemania, but you cannot have that discussion without Seth Rollins. Seth says since he was on the shelf last year, there is no better way to get back into the main event than to win the Royal Rumble. Seth tells Paul and the Big Dog that anything can happen in the main event of Wrestlemania. Braun Strowman’s music plays and he comes to the ring. Before Braun can say anything, Brock Lesnar makes his way to the ring after doing the Brock Bounce. Sami Zayn attacks Braun Strowman from behind. Roman with a Superman Punch followed by a knee from Rollins and a Helluva Kick by Zayn. Lesnar attacks Roman and Rollins and Lesnar grabs Zayn and hits a German suplex. Lesnar wants Strowman and Braun gets on the apron, but he returns to the floor. Reigns with Superman punches to Lesnar, Jericho, and Owens. Lesnar gets up and hits an F5 on Reigns.
Backstage: Sami Zayn is with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Sami talks about Kevin and Chris but he says that Braun is the focus of the team. He is like a house. He is big and fast and moves like a train. Sami says they need to throw smokescreens and then Roman cleans things up. Seth says he appreciates Sami’s enthusiasm but they have been here before. Sami throws out his fist and Roman and Seth walk away.
Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, and Braun Strowman versus Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns
Zayn goes after Strowman while Owens and Reigns brawl and Jericho and Rollins fight on the other side. It gets down to Reigns and Strowman in the ring and Strowman sends Reigns over the top rope to the floor. We are back and Jericho tags in and he punches Reigns. Owens punches and chokes Reigns while Jericho distracts the referee. Jericho slaps Reigns and Reigns does not appreciate it. Reigns with an uppercut and he sends Jericho into the corner and Zayn tags in. Sami with a chop and he sends Jericho into the turnbuckles and chops him. Zayn with a back breaker and moonsault. Owens tags in after Jericho backs Zayn into the corner. Owens punches Zayn and he taunts the crowd. Owens with a chop. Owens with knees to the back and a reverse chin lock. Owens with an enzuigiri for a near fall. Jericho tags in and kicks Zayn. Jericho with a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall. Jericho with a clothesline into the corner. Jericho goes up top and Zayn with a punch to the midsection as he comes off. Owens tags in and he keeps Zayn from making the tag and Owens with a short arm clothesline and Zayn gets his knees up on a back senton from Owens. Roman tags in and he punches Owens. Reigns with a flying clothesline and then he connects with NeverEnding Story in the corner. Reigns stops Jericho from interfering. Reigns with a thrust kick to Owens and he sets for the Superman punch but Jericho grabs the leg. Jericho is stopped by Rollins and Strowman sends Rollins into the ringside barrier.
Stephanie wants to talk about the rumor that Undertaker will be on Raw. She says if something is promised, they expect it. Stephanie reminds Mick about how Undertaker was last on Smackdown. Mick says he has no concrete evidence but he has a feeling that Undertaker will be here. Seth Rollins stops by and he tells Stephanie that he has entered the Royal Rumble. Braun Strowman says he wants Goldberg or Roman Reigns tonight . . . or else. Mick tells Braun that Goldberg isn’t here and Roman has a match . . .Seth says he can help Strowman and he punches Braun. Stephanie screams for security as they brawl. Officials come in and hold their hands out to stop Strowman and Seth. Stephanie says she will take care of this while Mick makes sure Undertaker is here.
Roman Reigns versus Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho for the United States Title
Before the match starts, Braun Strowman’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring. Reigns goes after Strowman and they punch each other. Owens and Jericho punch Reigns when he gets back into the ring. Strowman attacks Reigns and all three men kick Reigns. Owens with punches and kicks. Strowman with a boot to the ribs. Seth Rollins makes his way to the ring and he has a chair. Rollins throws the chair to Strowman and he hits a jumping round kick to Strowman. Rollins hits Owens and Jericho with the chair and then he goes after Strowman. Reigns hits Strowman with a chair and then Rollins and Reigns hit Strowman in the back with the chair. Stephanie McMahon makes her way onto the stage. She says this match will not end this way and Raw will not start this way. She promised a handicap match for the United States Championship. She says that so Roman does not have excuses when he loses, he will have his match later. If Seth wants a fight, he has one against Braun Strowman.
Braun Strowman versus Seth Rollins
Rollins with a drop kick and kicks and punches to Strowman. Strowman catches Rollins but Rollins gets to his feet to avoid a slam. Rollins clips Strowman a few times. Strowman sends Rollins to the mat and Rollins gets to the ropes. Strowman pulls Rollins up and Rollins lands on his feet and Strowman with a forearm to the back. Strowman with a splash into the corner and then he kicks Rollins in the chest. Strowman blocks a kick and hits a short arm clothesline. Rollins with punches but Strowman with a forearm and a hard Irish whip. Strowman with an elbow drop. Rollins grabs Strowman by the beard and hits a jaw breaker. Rollins with punches but Strowman sends Rollins to the apron. Rollins drops Strowman on the top rope. Rollins with clotheslines that have no effect. Rollins with kicks and Strowman with a choke slam. Strowman knocks Rollins off the apron and we go to commercial.
WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins
Rollins started hot, sending Owens to the floor and nailing a pescado to the floor. Owens went to the floor and Rollins nailed another. Back in the ring, Rollins worked him over with chops in the corner. He nailed a running knee to the chest for a two count. They went to commercial with Owens back in control and when they returned, Owens continued that, including hitting a back senton splash on Rollins. Owens tossed Rollins over the top to the floor. Rollins pulled himself back up but was dispatched to the floor again, as Owens attempte to get a countout win. Owens hit the floor and went for a cannonball into the barricade but Rolllins rolled out of the way. They both recovered and rolled back into the ring at the six count. They battled back and forth until Owen drilled Rollins with a kick into the hamstring. Owens attempted a pop up powerbomb but Rollins nailed an enziguiri. Rollins, favoring his leg, nailed a series of running forearms in the corner. Rollins avoided Owens’ offense and nailed the Slingblade. He scored with a superkick but was backdropped when he went for a Pedigree. Owens was sent to the floor and Rollins nailed a suicide dive to the floor. Rollins tossed Owens into the timekeeper’s area and rained down with right hands. Owens drilled Rollins with the ring bell, leading to a DQ.
Winner: Seth Rollins by DQ.
After the match: Rollins tried to grab Owens for a Pedigree but Owens slipped away, demanded his title and left.
